FAUTRIER Jean (1898-1964) - BATTLE Georges... - Lot 20 - Art Valorem

M., Jean Fautrier Les estampes, Geneva, Le cabinet des estampes, 1986, suite des estampes described and reproduced under n°170 to 187 pp.73-87. Rare copy of the original edition accompanied by a superb suite of nine original drawings by Fautrier. Creations with free and nervous spelling, in the raw and primitive style of his previous illustrations for Lespugue (1942), Digne de vivre (1944), Douze lettres à Fautrier (Animated, 1944, reprinted in 1975) and especially for the other work by Georges Bataille, Madame Edwarda, published in 1942 and republished in 1945 with 30 illustrations by Jean Perdu (Jean Fautrier's pseudonym). In 1945, Jean Fautrier produced 18 engravings and 100 letters for Alleluiah and delivered 468 drawings to his publisher. Alleluiah will be published in 1947 by Auguste Blaizot. Fautrier's drawings are made with pen and blue or pink ink, enhanced by a slight charcoal blurring. The artist's handwriting, characterized here by an accentuation of the full and half strokes, adds to the sensuality of the drawn bodies.
