HAUSSMANN Georges Eugène (1809-1891) 3... - Lot 6 - Art Valorem
HAUSSMANN Georges Eugène (1809-1891) 3 autograph letters signed to "Monsieur [Charles] Merruau" Paris, December 12 [18]66 and (s.l.n.d.) 6 pp. in-8 on blue paper. Dry stamp with his number. On December 12 he mentions a future report for the city council "[] I sent you last night a proof of my memoir, so that you could write down your corrections. I hope that you will have been able to do so in the morning, so that I will be able [] to give the good to print tomorrow morning, in view of the city council on Friday. - I assume that you have been able to read to the Emperor pages 37 to 43, which are the only ones of interest to him. If not, it will only be on Friday evening that I could send him a copy () "; (n.d.) Interesting letter with a touch of irony, in which he evokes his last misadventure " [] I am definitely treated like a sovereign. Osman-Pacha is not enough anymore; I am put in the rank of the sultan or rather of the Tzar: it is claimed that I am devoted to the assassination! I suspect that it is to give birth to the idea of this simple and expeditious way to get rid of my person those whom it has bothered too much for a long time! - Basically, a poor devil of a road-mender, revoked for drunkenness, presents himself in a state of absinthe, to speak to me (he claims that it was to ask for his reinstatement.) but as he spoke loudly in the wood, beat the trees there [] he is arrested at the gate of Longchamp [] he is searched; he carries a Catalan knife [] that looks good in a police report and that looks better in the newspapers and elsewhere, as proof of my unpopularity! When I go out on foot in the evening, or when I go through the woods, I always have in my pocket or in my car a nice little revolver; but I swear to you that I never wanted to assassinate the Ladies I was able to go and see, with this accessory [] "; (n.d.) short letter " [] Mr. Henri Poisson* only came to see me this afternoon, having had lunch this morning with (Mr. Boiffelle). He came to take my instructions for the evening []". Attached: A very interesting letter sent from Ems, July 13, 1870, 4pp. in-8°. Engraved header "HA". "I should be able to send you some interesting news, because we are walking twice a day at least, with a personage who is of particular importance at the moment, I mean with H.M. The King of Prussia. But although he talks a lot and with many people, I know nothing more than what your newspapers say, as well as some local gossip - such as these Bismarck arrives at 11:00 a.m. - Benedetti arrived yesterday - Everyone here is quite surprised - The King can't believe it - These Frenchmen () are having a German quarrel []]"
