[VALERY (Paul)]. L.A.S. addressed to his friend Marguerite Fournier S.l., dated February 9, 1943, one sheet recto, signed P.V. Framed letter, ink a little pale. Size of the letter 104 x 145 mm "Dear Marguerite, What a look on the opposite side! My heart is in my throat and I think of your desolation. Here we do not understand anything with this ruin. But one ends up being dazed in front of things, facts, acts of which one sees neither the reasons, nor the causes, nor the consequences ". Marguerite Fournier lived in Marseille, in a small mansion called "La Rose du Ciel" overlooking the Old Port of Marseille and facing the Saint-Victor abbey. Between the two wars, it belonged to Marguerite Fournier and her brother-in-law Hippolyte Ebrard. Some of Paul Valéry's letters to Marguerite Fournier are published in Lettres à une amie 1938-1944, Loumarin de Provence, 1988.
