DALOU Aimé-Jules (1838-1902) Silene Mask Bronze proof with brown patina signed, numbered 12 and lost wax foundry stamp A A Hebrard. 15,5 x 10,5 cm This bronze is an edition of the study of the Triumph of Silenus, a group executed by Dalou in plaster in 1878 then presented at the Salon in 1885. A plaster sketch of this group, finally bought by the State and installed in the gardens of the Palais du Luxembourg in 1898, is kept in the Musée d'Orsay. We can also find an edition of our silene mask, made in sandstone by the Manufacture de Sèvres, in the Petit Palais.
