Exceptional, important and highly original Cairo rug, Egypt, circa 1930 Wool velvet on cotton backing Ruby field with highly original decoration reminiscent of Persian miniatures from the 16th and 17th centuries under the Safavid dynasty, featuring characters (cherubs), wild animals, serpentines, plants and sprigs of flowers and foliage finely drawn in polychrome framing a central bluish-gray floral rosette in the shape of a stylized diamond. Triple borders, the main one beige with interlacing bulbs, palmettes of multicolored stylized flowers surrounded by fine crenellated branches in twists and rings.
